Frequently asked questions

What is Booze Pilot for?

Booze Pilot is a tracking and entertainment app for adults who want to log their alcohol consumption and watch their estimated BAC curve (Widmark formula) live. With statistics, a logbook and a pilot liver mascot.

Does the app replace a real breathalyzer?

No. The values shown are estimates based on the Widmark formula. They depend on many individual factors (stomach contents, drinking pace, daily condition, medication, tolerance) and can differ significantly from reality. Never make decisions about driving ability based on Booze Pilot. When in doubt: do not drive.

Is my data stored or analyzed anywhere?

No. All entries stay in a local database on your iPhone. There's no account, no cloud sync, no tracking and no ads. Details in the privacy policy.

Why does the app ask for Apple Health access?

Access is optional. Booze Pilot can read your daily steps and last night's sleep duration to put your day in context in the stats. You can also enable in your profile that each drink is saved as a standard drink in Apple Health under "Alcohol Consumption" — that's off by default. You can revoke either permission at any time under Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Booze Pilot.

How does the Apple Health integration for drinks work?

If you enable "Log drinks to Apple Health" in your profile, Booze Pilot writes every drink as a standard drink to Apple Health. One standard drink in the US is defined as ~14 g of pure alcohol; the app uses the WHO/DGE value of 12 g internally and converts. A 12 fl oz (0.35 L) beer at 5% is about 1 standard drink, a 1.5 fl oz shot at 40% is also about 1 standard drink. If you delete a drink in Booze Pilot, the related Health entry is removed.

Are drinks from Apple Health imported into the log?

Yes. Once you've granted Health access, Booze Pilot pulls all entries from Apple Health → "Alcohol Consumption" that weren't written by Booze Pilot itself into the log on app start. You can also trigger the import manually in your profile under "Import from Apple Health". Imported entries are tagged as a generic standard drink (~12 fl oz beer / 12 g alcohol) and marked in the log with a pink heart icon. If you delete an imported entry in Booze Pilot, the original Health sample is preserved — we only delete what we wrote ourselves.

How do I log a drink?

Tap a drink card in the cockpit — done. Long-press to adjust amount or time before the drink lands in the logbook.

How do I delete an entry from the log?

In the "Log" tab, swipe the entry left → "Delete". For multiple entries: tap "Edit" in the top right.

How do I reset all data?

At the bottom of the "Profile" tab you'll find a "Reset all data" button. That erases your profile, drinks and stats — irreversibly. Alternatively, delete the app from your home screen — all data is gone.

Why doesn't my BAC curve match my breathalyzer?

The Widmark formula is a population-level statistical approximation. Factors like stomach contents, drinking pace, medication, daily condition, tolerance and resorption deficit can shift the real value by 0.02% or more. Treat the curve as guidance with a wink — never as legal or medical evidence.

Why is the app rated 17+?

Apple requires an age rating of at least 17+ for any app with frequent alcohol references. Booze Pilot is, by nature, exclusively about alcohol — hence the rating.

Is there an Android version?

Not currently. Booze Pilot is a native iOS app (SwiftUI, SwiftData, iOS 18+). An Android version is not planned.

Which iOS version do I need?

iOS 18.0 or newer. The app runs on all iPhones that support iOS 18.
